Split Bean Coffee's Flavor of The Month January 2007 - Coconut

Alfajores de Coco and Coconut Marshmallows

The coconut is one of the most popular and most useful plants in the world. Although many regions claim it as native to their soil, the oldest preserved fossils hail from the South Pacific and India. The coconut by nature is a tropical fruit and only grows in tropical climates. The only states, where this wonderful fruit grows is Florida and Hawaii, and the northeast most point where coconuts are said to thrive is Newport Beach, California along the Pacific Coast Highway.

The coconut fruit can be used in many culinary applications, from exotic curries, to savory dishes, and all kinds of sweets, as well as home remedies. The fruit and plant get their name from the name of a scary witch in Portuguese folklore – Coco or Côca because when you peel a coconut, when viewed from one end, the germination pores give the appearance of a scary face.

Split Bean Coffee’s Dulce de Coco Alfajores are made with our own blend of our signature Dulce de Leche and Coconut Preserve imported from the South Pacific. This delicious blend gives our alfajores a unique, smooth, and mild coconut flavor you can enjoy with family or guests.

Featured this month as well are our Coconut Marshmallows, made with 100% organic coconut essence and rolled in unsweeted coconut. A delicious addition to your cup of cocoa or as a mid-night treat.
